This is how I grow plants in my garden pond. May 20, 2011 using a Flip. You want to cover up the dirt as good as you can. I have an algae problem now because of too much nutrients coming outta the pots.

June 30, 2008. My koi pond has magically cleared up over the last 6 days. I added a lot more water hyacinths suspended in a 4' X 10' minnow seine net from Wal Mart. This keeps the koi from eating and tearing up the plant roots. The plants use up the nutrients in the pond and the algae starve to death. Voila! Clear water.

I would love to get my goldfish on a steady diet of all of the duckweed I have coming out of my planted tanks. I hope that they continue to eat it. Sometimes goldfish just stop eating certain plants for no reason. The back tanks are now planted with some sword off shoots. They are down in the dirt so they should be doing well.. I am wondering how much they will grow back there. Last year they were in too much sunlight and got torched.

How To Create The Best Garden Pond

Article by Grange Aquatics

begin. Below we have put together some of the best tips on how to create the best garden pond.Ask anybody who has a garden pond and they will tell you how much the pond has changed their garden. Not only does it provide a focal point for relaxing and enjoying your garden but it can also become a real haven for wonderful local wildlife. There are a few pointers to take into consideration that will ensure the success of your garden pond project

The BeginningIt is important to really plan your pond project, so don't just rush out and start buying material and pond equipment without considering the best way forward. The first thing is to draw up a plan of your pond and how you would like it to look.

Pond PositionThe next step is to plan the best position within your garden for the pond. Point to consider include the amount of sunlight the pond will receive during the year (if the pond is subjected to strong sunlight, algae may be encouraged to grow), distance from the house and household members such as children and pets, position in relation to trees (constantly clearing out leaves is not much fun).

Pond materialThere are several different types of material which you may choose to create your pond from, ranging from UPVC to concrete. Make sure that you consider what you want from your pond and where it will be positioned and discuss this with a specialist pond provider company. They will be able to best advise which material to use.

Digging out the pondCheck that there are no pipes or wires where you have decide to dig and then begin digging a hole in accordance with your plan. Remove any sharp stones or foreign debris which you might find. Think about creating shallower areas for wildlife and specific plants.

Fill the pondIt is best to allow the pond to fill with rainwater naturally rather than filling it with tap water. This is because tap water contains minerals which may encourage algae growth. If you have to fill it with tap water then discuss this with a pond specialist who may be able to give advice on specific products to prevent this problem.

Grange Aquatics have been in business for over 20 years and have a dedicated team of staff on hand to share their expertise in pond equipment and water features. Visit their website Pond Liner.

How to build a garden fish pond (update)

A big thanks to all the people who have viewed and commented on my video 'how to build a garden pond' I wasnt expecting no where near that amount of view icon smile How to build a garden fish pond (update) last week I got a notification that my video was the most viewed in that month and stood at number one in there search...blown away icon smile How to build a garden fish pond (update) Anyhow..since the build there has been a few changed that I think I shuould mention. Firstly filtration.. the water was still slightly green so I decided to upgrade the pump and filtration. pump from 5000 l/h to 18000 l/h filter box from 11000 I/h to 33000 I/h UV clarifier from 8 watt to 30 watt. I have also heightened my water fall too. The pressurized system that I originally had was a bugger to clean properly and the UV wasnt enough to kill off the algae, but now the water is so clear that you would swear you could drink it. The picture in this video are a bit deceiving and the pond looks very shallow, however its 750mm deep, thats how clear it is now. I also binned the pressure filter idea for gravity feed and this has turned out to be very simple and quick to clean. I have also fitted a water splitter from the pump so that I can control the amount of water going through the filter and the waterfall independantly, even to the point of turning the waterfall off without it effecting the filtration. icon smile How to build a garden fish pond (update) the last part of the pond to be done is the bottom and the lighting. the plan is to have the bottom (once cleaned) filled with smooth black quartz and then have some blue underwater ...

We watched this grass snake eat a whole live frog in our back garden pond in Ipswich, Suffolk UK. It took the snake 20 minutes to devour the whole frog, but I have edited it to 5 minutes.

Outdoor Fountains Will Change a City Garden

Living in a town infrequently imposes restrictions on garden designs due to the limiting size of the space available. With a little imagination and a water fountain pumps, a tiny area can be unbelievably altered.

Outdoor fountains are very versatile and can be displayed in a variety of different settings.

A wall hanging outdoor fountain can turn a tiny concrete enclosure into a pretty concealed garden. Even in a small garden or enclosed patio, the sound of delicately trickling water of an outside fountain has the power to both soothe and inspire and will make a tranquil escape from the loud world outside.

Wall mounted water fountains are becoming very talked-about with landscape designers. Adding a water fountain is maybe the single best landscaping idea to add sight, sound, movement and interest to a tiny space.

Wall mounted fountains can add a particularly organic and natural feeling to an otherwise sheer and uninviting tiny area. Water sparkle and shines as it gradually slides down the face of the fountain and over the naturally colored stones in the basin.

]]>

Outdoor fountains actually boost certain walls, particularly when encircled by potted plants and hanging baskets because they draw the eyes in different directions.

A wall mounted water fountain provides natural sounds of trickling water that help create a soothing place to sit and relax in. They're making a nice background sound when relaxing with a book or sitting with a pal slurping iced tea.

Such a fountain placed in the middle of a tiny, brick or whitewashed yard will add an air of old world charm taking the onlooker to thoughts of Mediterranean villages and tiny bistros.

Add the last touch to ornamental fountains.

Add rocks to the basin of the fountain. Select stones that have engaging natural colours and patterns that you find fascinating and reflect the color scheme of the patio or garden.

Your budget will obviously affect the size and material of the fountain you're able to purchase. Outside fountains are available in a wide price range, and there are lots of economical options available.

Even when working on a humble budget, don't skimp on your fountain's purchase. You may not need to spend very much at all on further landscaping.

Outdoor Water Fountains are simple to install. If you buy water fountain pumps online from a respected fountain store, it will usually be on the doorstep in just a few days. Conventional floor fountains only need a level place to stand.
